WATER at MAWSON LAKES
By Jade, Jade and Tayla

Water is really important to us in South Australia. We live in the driest state of the driest continent.
You can see how dry it is at the airport, very close to us. We have water restrictions in Adelaide. You are not allowed to water your gardens after 10:30 am or before 5:30 pm (or 6:30pm during daylight saving). This is to try to save more water. Before we had water restrictions people used to leave their garden sprinklers going during the day. Lots of water evaporated or ran into the gutters and was wasted.

Our main river is the River Murray. It begins in New South Wales and flows through New South Wales, and Victoria before it gets to us. It flows out to sea at Goolwa, on the south coast. Sometimes the mouth of the river dries up and the water doesn't get as far as the sea. We also have probelms with salinity. Too many people take water from the river, and the salt levels are rising. There are lots of projects starting now to save the Murray and make sure we have enough water in the future.

The River Torrens runs through the centre of Adelaide. Here are some photos . Sometimes we have dragon boat racing and lots of people come to watch.
